MacDonald & Associates is pleased to welcome two new Associates this month.

Amelia is an Associate lawyer at MacDonald & Associates.

After graduating from the International Baccalaureate, Amelia obtained an Honours B.A. from the University of Toronto at the prestigious Trinity College and a J.D. from the University of Western Ontario.

In law school, Amelia edited professionally for The Canadian Journal of Law & Jurisprudence before completing her degree on exchange to the University of Hong Kong, Faculty of Law. Amelia was selected to clerk at an international court and, later, articled at one of Canada's most prominent Bay Street firms.

Following her Call to the Bar in 2010, Amelia entered the corporate arena and ran, and subsequently sold, a global professional assistance company serving high net-worth clients primarily in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles.

Amelia re-entered the legal profession in 2017, representing clients in complex corporate litigation matters, including injunctive relief cases, and has represented some of Canada's largest corporations. Amelia also has extensive experience representing municipal and provincial governments.

Amelia recently won precedent-setting injunctions against a global search engine for the removal of search results that were the subject of pending defamation litigation. She has also secured injunctions against a global web host and an internet service provider for the removal of the defamatory content from the internet.

Amelia takes every opportunity to advocate for her clients, from early settlement discussions to appearing in Court. Amelia is currently a contributor to LexisNexis Practice Advisor on litigation and advocacy topics.

Outside the office, Amelia sits on the Board of Directors for Trails Youth Initiatives, a youth charity with a mission to challenge and equip vulnerable youth to become contributing members of the community. Amelia also enjoys athletic pursuits, including running 21.1-kilometer, 30-kilometer and 42.2-kilometer marathons.

Heather is an Associate Lawyer at MacDonald & Associates.

Heather has diverse litigation experience in a broad range of employment and human rights matters.

Heather's experience includes litigating matters in the Ontario Superior Court, Divisional Court and Court of Appeal.

Heather has a passion for crafting unique and novel litigation strategies, and is a fervent advocate for her clients in every step of the litigation process.

Prior to commencing her legal career, Heather worked in senior Ontario government ministries, assisting in the development of new legislation. She has unique insight into the legislative process, and has been able to use this knowledge in advising her clients.

Heather has provided advice and representation to clients on a broad range of issues, including employment standards, occupational health and safety, human rights and disability accommodation, privacy and workplace safety and insurance.

Employment legislation is constantly evolving, and Heather has her finger on the pulse of the latest developments in employment law.

Prior to joining MacDonald & Associates, Heather worked with two other top-rated labour and employment firms in Toronto. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 2015.

While in law school, Heather served as a peer tutor and volunteered as a team leader with the Queen's Chapter of Pro Bono Students Canada, where she provided legal services pertaining to the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act to local organizations.

In her spare time, Heather enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cooking and traveling.
