This program will explore several major issues at the forefront of financial services regulation and litigation, with a particular focus on issues of interest to states. The first day will begin day with foundational lectures on lessons learned from the financial crisis and understanding the Dodd-Frank Act and its unintended consequences, followed by a more detailed discussion surrounding Dodd-Frank's 5th anniversary. Other foundational lectures will highlight the role of debt collection in the ecosystem of consumer credit and the regulation of student lending in higher education. Panels will include topics such as pre-dispute arbitration clauses, consumer protection and financial services, and the evolving worlds of mobile banking, digital wallets, and virtual currencies.
