Attorney Spotlight

Shawn A. Toliver, Walnut Creek

Mr. Toliver has almost 30 years of experience as a litigator and trial attorney in California state and federal courts. He regularly handles cases involving catastrophic damages with multimillion-dollar exposure, from transportation and workplace accidents to fires, floods, wrongful death cases, commercial litigation, and much more. Mr. Toliver is frequently asked to parachute into cases shortly before trial to act as lead counsel, sometimes across jurisdictional lines, including a traumatic brain injury (TBI) case in New Mexico, an amputation case in federal court in Hawaii, and a multiple shooting case in Colorado.

Mr. Toliver recently secured a win in a three-week jury trial involving a TBI claim arising from a slip-and-fall incident in a San Diego mall. Mr. Toliver was brought in less than two weeks before the trial to defend the mall's janitorial services company, which was facing a $12 million damages claim. While other defendants in the case settled, Mr. Toliver went to bat for his client, and after only a couple hours of deliberation, the jury returned a full defense verdict.
