On September 29, 2020, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) Sunset Extension Bill, AB-1281, which extends the business to business (B2B) and employee exemptions to the CCPA which were set to expire at the end of this year. Specifically, under AB-1281, the B2B and employee exemptions expire on January 1, 2022. In the event the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) is enacted, B2B and employee exemptions will expire on January 1, 2023, pursuant to CPRA and AB-1281 will become inoperative. We have previously discussed AB-1281 in more detail here and analyzed the CPRA here.
