It's called ransomware, and the city's leading Internet attorney says it is going to become a lot more familiar in the coming months, News Radio 1200 WOAI reports.

Last week a California hospital paid $17,000 to a hacker who had planted a bug into thier computer network which left the computers inaccessible until the company paid the hacker, in bitcoin, to neutralize the bug and get their computer network back.

"I think as long as it works, we're going to be seeing more of it," said Debra Innocenti of the local office of Strasburger Price, whose clients include Geekdom and several high tech firms.
