Today, July 18, 2019, the anniversary of the announcement of the related solicitation, 1 New York State announced that it has selected two offshore wind projects—Empire Wind (Equinor US Holdings) and Sunrise Wind (Bay State Wind, a joint venture of Ørsted A/S and Eversource Energy)—with a combined 1696 megawatts (MW) of capacity for contract negotiation.
New York expects that these projects will bring a combined economic impact of $3.2 billion to upstate, downstate and Long Island; will support more than 1,600 jobs in project development, component manufacturing, installation, and operations and maintenance; and will directly offer well-paying careers with salaries of approximately $100,000 per year.
