Did you apply for a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) or Enduring Power of Attorney (EPA) to be registered between 1st April 2013 and the 31st March 2017?

If you did then you may be eligible for a refund. The Ministry of Justice has embarked on a £69,000,000 refund scheme for people who may have overpaid when applying to register a Power of Attorney. The partial refund is available to the person who put the Power of Attorney in place or the Attorney who is appointed.

The refund scheme is being administered by the Office of the Public Guardian; they are a government body that monitors Deputies and Attorneys. The refund scheme will run for 3 years. If you think that you may be eligible for a refund then visit www.claim-power-of-attorney-refund.service.gov.uk. There is also a designated refund helpline 0300 4560300, selecting option 6.

It is only a partial refund, not the full amount. The amount of the refund varies in line with the application fee that was paid when applying for the Power of Attorney to be registered.
