We have received reports that the "YANTIAN EXPRESS ", a 2002 built container vessel flying the German flag, has a significant cargo fire.

We understand that the salvage tug "SMIT NICOBAR" is fighting the fire. All 23 crew have abandoned the "YANTIAN EXPRESS" and are safely on the "SMIT NICOBAR". The tug "MAERSK MOBILISER" is also en route.

The vessel has a container capacity of 7506 TEU and from the pictures appears loaded to near capacity. It is likely that there will be major claims for salvage and GA as well as recovery of PA losses. Any claim for LOF salvage will be subject to English law and London arbitration.
