March 2021 - Following a Phase II review procedure, the Turkish Competition Board (the "Board") has blocked a transaction concerning the acquisition of sole control over Marport Liman Isletmeleri by Terminal Investment Limited (review launched on 13 August 2020 and numbered 20-37/523-231). The Board unanimously decided that as a result of the proposed transaction, effective competition in terms of port management services in relation to container handling in Turkey's north-western Marmara region would suffer a significant impediment.

In similar past decisions, in 2017 the Board conducted a Phase II review regarding the acquisition of Ulusoy Ro-Ro by U.N. Ro-Ro and concluded that the transaction would restrict competition for roll-on, roll-off ("ro-ro") transportation between Turkey and Europe. The Board likewise in 2015 rejected the acquisition of the shares of Beta Marina and Pendik Turizm Yat Marina by Setur, highlighting that the notified transaction would result in the creation of a dominant position and therefore restrict competition in the relevant market.
