Johannesburg (South Africa) - Fasken was honoured at the 2023 Pro Bono Johannesburg Awards Ceremony for its unwavering commitment and substantial pro bono contributions to the clients of ProBono.Org.

Fasken was acknowledged for the Firm's dedication to working with the NISAA Institute for Women's Development, working with refugees, and working with small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs).

In order to facilitate Fasken's pro bono commitment, the Firm has partnered with NGOs in order to serve individuals and the greater community. The Johannesburg office is proud of the Firm's partnership with ProBono.Org. Together, we advise on various Housing and Refugee matters.

Fasken also established a partnership with the University of Johannesburg Centre for Entrepreneurship to render pro bono legal services to startups and entrepreneurs. This project facilitates business development for startups and existing SMMEs through the provision of business skills training, mentorship and pro bono legal services.

Fasken recognised the escalation of gender-based violence in our communities and as such we have established a partnership with the NISAA Institute for Women's development. Through this partnership the Firm is able to provide holistic pro bono legal services to survivors of gender-based violence. This project is holistic because it renders both legal and psychosocial support to survivors of gender-based violence.

The Fasken Johannesburg office Pro Bono practice group is headed by partner Sushila Dhever. Sushila was admitted as an attorney in 2008 and has 16 years post qualification experience in human rights and public interest litigation and advocacy. She is responsible for managing the Firm's pro bono litigation and CSI initiatives in the region.
