Sharon Singh spoke on a panel examining The Impact of ESG and Human Rights Due Diligence on the Western Hemisphere Energy Sector at the Houston Energy Conference hosted by the American Bar Association International Law Section.

This panel surveyed how environmental, social and governance principles and human rights due diligence mandates arising from treaties and declarations issued by the United Nations and regional bodies require fossil fuel and renewable energy companies to change corporate policies and strategies or face costly liability claims and brand name damage. The panel discussed existing and emerging human rights obligations that businesses must comply with, including the right to a healthy environment as well as adequate and effective consultation with Indigenous peoples.

This event brought together international attorneys from law firms, energy companies and governmental institutions worldwide to explore current issues in the energy sector and cutting-edge strategies to address them.
