Edmonton – October 25, 2023 – Field Law congratulates firm partner Ayla Akgungor on her appointment as a Justice of the Court of King's Bench in Edmonton. Federal Minister of Justice and Attorney General the Honourable Arif Virani announced Justice Akgungor's appointment this week.

Justice Akgungor began with Field Law as a summer student and was called to the Bar in 2000 after clerking at the Alberta Court of Appeal and Court of Queen's Bench. She joined the Field Law partnership in 2010. She has been a leading practitioner in human rights, labour, and employment and professional regulation law, serving as Field's Labour + Employment Practice Group Leader from 2014 through 2022.

"While her kindness, work ethic, and mentorship to our associates at Field Law will be missed, the whole team is thrilled for Justice Akgungor as she achieves this career milestone," says Field Law Managing Partner Jeremiah Kowalchuk. Justice Akgungor has been recognized for her legal achievements on numerous occasions, including being recognized by Best Lawyers in Canada in the areas of Labour, Employment, Administrative and Public Law. She has been a passionate volunteer advising on the Student Legal Services Human Rights Project and acted as a Member-at-Large for the Canadian Bar Association's National Administrative Law Section.
