The Albanian Energy Law was recently amended introducing
specific rules about the power market operator – Albanian
Power Exchange (Albanian PX). The Transmission System Operator
(TSO) is to incorporate the Albanian PX, either solely, or in
cooperation with other legal entities with relevant international
experience and good reputation. Within 6 months from the entry into
force of the said amendment (i.e. within September 2018), the
Albanian government is expected to set forth detailed rules about
the legal form and ownership structure of the Albanian PX as well
as the selection process and qualification requirements of other
entities interested in participating in the PX. This marks an
important step towards the liberalization of the electricity market
in Albania.
