On 19 June 2018, the United States Patent and Trade Mark Office
(USPTO) issued its 10 millionth patent. The first US patent
(relating to a process of making potash—an ingredient used in
fertilizer) was issued nearly 230 years ago and was signed by
President George Washington. The 10 millionth US patent was for a
range and velocity detecting laser system.
