Within the parliamentary debate on the structural changes in the energy sector in Mexico (Energy Reform), on July 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21, 2014, the Senate approved, in general and in particular, three of the four resolutions by which different laws are created and other existing laws are amended.

The resolutions that were approved are the following:

  1. Resolution that contains a draft decree in which the Hydrocarbon Law is issued and several provisions of the Foreign Investment Law, Mining Law and Public Private Partnerships Law are amended (approved July 17 and 18, 2014).
  2. Resolution that contains a draft decree by means of which the Electricity Industry and Geothermic Energy Laws are issued and several provisions of the Law of National Waters are amended (approved July 19, 2014).
  3. Resolution that contains a draft decree by means of which the Mexican Petroleum and the Federal Electric Commission Laws are issued and provisions of the Federal Government Controlled Entities Law, the Law of Acquisitions, Leases and Public Sector Services and the Public Works and Services Law are amended or eliminated (approved July 20, 2014).
  4. Resolution that contains a draft decree by means of which the Law of Coordinated Regulatory Entities for the Energy Sector and the Law of the National Agency of Industrial Security and Environmental Protection for the Hydrocarbon Sector are issued and several provisions of the Federal Public Administration Organization Law are amended or eliminated (approved July 21, 2014).

The aforementioned resolutions have been sent, for their discussion and eventual approval, to the House of Representatives.
