More than 75 members of London's film community attended a presentation in Soho yesterday evening showcasing the potential benefits of using Guernsey's finance industry.

The event was hosted by Guernsey Finance – the promotional agency for the Island's finance industry, in conjunction with the recently formed Guernsey Film.

Last night's presentation was held in the screening rooms at the Charlotte Street Hotel and featured Stephen Margolis, CEO of Future Films – a lawyer with more than 20 years' experience in the film industry and who has raised in excess of £2 billion for film production since founding the 'specialist, integrated motion picture organisation' in 2000.

The audience comprised specialists from across the London film community, including bankers, investors, investment advisers, lawyers, accountants, producers, distributors and the media.

"This event was a great success," said Peter Niven, Chief Executive of Guernsey Finance.

"Everything came together very well. We had a very strong turnout of more than 75 delegates, our presentation made use of the high quality audio-visual facilities available, the presence of Stephen Margolis was a superb endorsement for the Island and the audience was very receptive to the message that Guernsey can provide a 'one-stop shop' solution for film finance.

"In addition, the vast majority of attendees also joined the networking reception, which provided the Guernsey practitioners with a great opportunity to either establish or reinforce relationships with some of these key members of the London film community. Overall, I'm very pleased with the event and I'm confident that it will lead to business opportunities for the Island's service providers in this field."

As well as Mr Margolis, speakers at the event included Anthony Tulloch, Partner in the Corporate Group and Head of Investment Funds at Olswang LLP and his colleague Cliona Kirby, Partner in the Tax Group at Olswang. Also presenting were the Co-Chairmen of Guernsey Film: Ben Tustin, Director of Tax Strategies at Marlborough Trust Company; and Richard Garrod, Director at Confiance.

Guernsey Film was formed earlier this year by a group of finance industry professionals and the Guernsey Government to act as a centre of excellence for the collective infrastructure and expertise available on the Island specifically within the film field. It includes experts in law, banking, insurance, tax structuring, fund management, investment funds, intellectual property and information technology who together can provide a 'one-stop shop' for managing the financial aspects associated with films.

The event took place on Thursday 30 September in the screening rooms at the Charlotte Street Hotel, 15-17 Charlotte Street, London, W1T 1RJ. It started at 4pm and was followed by a networking reception sponsored by Cable & Wireless.
