On July 27, 2004, the European Parliament Committee for Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI COM) will hold its first meeting under the sixth Parliamentary Term. During this first meeting, the newly elected Members (MEPs) will not begin their debate on the pending legislative files, but will be assigned their reporting task as a result of the Coordinators’ meeting. The Coordinators are designated by each European Political Group as a leader of the Group in a Committee. The Coordinators meet with the Chairperson of the Committee before each Committee meeting and they have the duty to designate the rapporteur (draftsperson) for each Communication on which the ENVI COM is providing a report or an opinion. The major pending files to be discussed by the new MEPs are as follows:

  • Proposal for a Directive amending Council Directive 67/548/EEC in order to adapt it to Regulation (EC) of the European Parliament and of the Council concerning the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals COM(2003)0644 (First Reading)
  • Proposal for a Directive relating to restrictions on the marketing and use of certain polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons in extender oils and tires (twenty-seventh amendment of Council Directive 76/769/EEC) COM(2004)0098 (First Reading)
