Bank of Valletta has launched a new card usage campaign 'Eggcellent Way to Pay this Easter' to promote safer contactless everyday payments.

"Tap and pay is one simple method we can use in our battle against COVID-19," stated Franco Xuereb, Executive, Electronic Banking at Bank of Valletta. "Due to their fast and convenient nature, the use of BOV Pay for in-store purchases and BOV cards for online shopping reduces one's contact and exposure risk."

Customers can choose to make in-store payments with their smartphone instead of their physical credit or debit card. Once a BOV Visa Debit or Credit Card is uploaded on the BOV Pay App, GarminPay or ApplePay, one simply taps their phone or smartwatch to the shop's point of sale machine and payment is done instantly without the need to touch the EPOS keypad to enter the PIN number, irrespective of the purchase amount.

The tap-and-pay way is also available for customers who prefer to use their actual BOV Card to pay. Purchases under ? 50 can be paid for by a simple tap against the point of sale terminal without the need to input the PIN. One can still go contactless for payments over ?50, but the PIN would then be required.

Online shoppers who use BOV Cards for online payments have the peace of mind that their card account activity is constantly monitored by an anti-fraud team and system.

"Our fun Easter campaign is designed to drive consumer awareness about the convenient and safe aspects of contactless payments. There is no minimum amount when paying with BOV Cards or BOV Pay and the amounts that one can spend every day vary according to the type of card one holds. Daily card limits range from ?700 to ?6,000. So, one can opt for these safe and convenient payment methods instead of cash - whether they are paying for a month's worth of grocery shopping or simply buying one small Easter egg!"
