The House of Representatives of Cyprus has introduced amendments
in the Trademark Law in order to align with the European Trademarks
Directive (Directive (EU) 2015/2436).
The mentioned regulation has brought substantial amendments and
changed the system of registration, maintenance and protection of
trademarks.
Some of the key changes in the Trademark Law are listed as
follows:
- Multi class system in trademark filing has been
introduced,
- Trademark protection period has increased to 10 years from 7
years,
- "cooling off" period has been introduced,
- Opposition period has been lengthened from 2 to three
months,
These amendments have entered into force on June 12, 2020.
