On 21 July 2018, Belgium introduced a new law aimed at simplifying the process of raising capital through crowdfunding. Under the new law, projects up to Euros 5 million that would previously have been required to supply a prospectus approved by the Financial Services and Markets Authority (FSMA) will now only be required to provide an information note.

In this in-depth article, Belgium lawyer Leo Peeters of Peeters Law covers off everything you need to know about this latest round of changes to crowdfunding legislation. He begins by outlining the previous state of play regarding prospectus exemptions that were brought in back in December 2016 before going on to detail the additional exemptions being introduced as a result of the new law. Peeters also provides a comprehensive guide on putting together an information note.
