In the wake of the government mandated shutdown of "non-essential" businesses and services (see here for more info on 'essential' businesses), the NSW government's decision to relax its licensing laws may keep your local wine bar's doors open for a bit longer.

As of yesterday, licensed venues that are usually restricted to the sale of alcohol on-premises can provide takeaway and home delivery services. This means that, aside from your usual tipple (you know, beer, wine and spirits), your favourite cocktails may also be just a few clicks away from your doorstep. It really does keep getting easier to #staythef***athome.

Now, this doesn't mean that licensed venues can sell to minors or intoxicated persons. Liquor and Gaming NSW will still be enforcing these laws – although it's unclear whether any additional measures will be put in place beyond the (rather ineffective) provisions in our liquor laws that apply to online alcohol sales.

With restaurants, bars and cafés still scrambling to adapt their business models in response to the increasing shutdown restrictions, we'll have to wait and see what the hospitality industry looks like on the other side. In the meantime, order a negroni (or two... or more...) and help to support your favourite restaurant/bar/pub through these hard times.

We do not disclaim anything about this article. We're quite proud of it really.
