Smart & Biggar is thrilled to share that we were the recipient of four awards, including "IP Boutique Firm of the Year" at the recent Managing IP North American Awards.
We were also honoured to receive "Patent Prosecution Firm of the Year" for Canada, and a coveted "Canadian Impact Case of the Year" award for our successful representation of Dow Chemical Company at the Federal Court of Appeal, upholding the award of $650 million for Nova's infringement of Dow's patent – the largest reported Canadian patent infringement award in history.
Additionally, Ottawa managing partner Steven Garland, who was successful lead counsel for Dow Chemicals, was named Canada's "Patent Practitioner of the Year".
