Plans to continue to develop the financial services industry in Guernsey and broaden its reach will be unveiled at this week's Industry Update event, presented by Guernsey Finance.

The start-of-year event staged in Guernsey normally attracts more than 250 people to St James for a report on Guernsey Finance's activities the previous year and a look ahead for the next 12 months.

Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Rupert Pleasant will be appearing at his first Industry Update, having taken up the role during lockdown.

"Obviously, it has been a turbulent time and I would like to praise our team for being able to come away from a physical world and move completely into the digital world so quickly. This year we had expected that we would be operating in a different, hybrid world, but now, who knows?" he said.

"However, I do think our reputation has been enhanced through the island's response to Covid-19.

"I know people are aware of our regulatory regime, our stability, and now our response to Covid, and are thinking 'that's a place we can do business with, that's a place where we can put our money'."

Senior executives at Guernsey Finance and Deputy Lyndon Trott, as Chairman of the agency, will speak at the event, which takes place at St James at 8am on Thursday 21 January.
