Turnaround of the Central Adelaide Local Health Network recognised with top award.

A prestigious award recognising significant progress in CALHN's recovery.

KordaMentha was honoured at the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) Australia's National Conference 2020, winning the Large Turnaround of the Year award for the Central Adelaide Local Health Network (CALHN) engagement.

Winning at the annual TMA Awards is highly sought after as each category winner is selected by a cross section of industry participants.

KordaMentha was initially engaged to undertake a diagnostic review of CALHN in 2018 which identified a range of significant issues relating to patient outcomes, workforce and financial management. In the absence of intervention, KordaMentha forecast CALHN would incur a $274 million cash loss in the 12 months following the diagnostic review.

A team from KordaMentha were engaged to implement CALHN's three-year Organisational and Financial Recovery Plan. Designed to reposition CALHN as a modern, high-functioning network, delivering sustainable care for the community, the Plan outlined five strategic objectives targeting an end-to-end transformation to:

  • Deliver better patient outcomes.
  • Operate a modern health service.
  • Be a great place to work and learn.
  • Better the leadership of Adelaide's health.
  • Sustainably allocate resources.

As of mid-2020, CALHN had completed a range of significant milestones of the Recovery Program, including an organisational restructure, improved patient outcomes, and an improved financial performance.

By delivering improved levels of service and care for patients and the South Australian community, whilst at the same time improving CALHN's governance and workforce arrangements and financial performance, significant benefit has been delivered to the people of South Australia.

KordaMentha wishes to acknowledge the leadership shown and contribution made by SA Health together with the Board, management and staff of CALHN.

The award was announced at TMA's 2020 National Conference (virtual event) on 1 December 2020.
