Legal 500, one of the leading international legal directories, published its Caribbean results earlier this week. Appleby's Caribbean offices in Bermuda, the British Virgin Islands and the Cayman Islands achieved 17 firm rankings overall, demonstrating the firm's multijurisdictional capabilities and depth of expertise across many sectors.

The Appleby BVI office ranked in the Trusts/Private Client, Banking, Finance and Capital Markets, Dispute Resolution and Corporate & Commercial sectors.  Reflecting the depth of talent within the office, a total of 76% of the the lawyers within the BVI office were individually ranked.

Dispute Resolution

The BVI Dispute Resolution and Trusts/Private Client teams both maintained top rankings from last year. Dispute Resolution clients described the team as "excellent, diligent and thoughtful," saying that they "know the law of BVI and Cayman inside out." Another client confirms that "Appleby are definitely among the best teams. They are a great fit for a dispute of any scale and complexity."

The profile of Andrew Willins, partner and Group Head of Dispute Resolution, described him as being "as strong as he is humble."  He was ranked as a "Leading Individual." One client praised his "excellent in house knowledge of BVI local case law," and "experience of heavy complex cases."

Banking, Finance & Corporate

The BVI team also maintained its rankings in the Banking, Finance and Capital Markets and Corporate & Commercial practice areas. Senior Associate Rebecca Jack was awarded a "Rising Star" ranking for her Corporate & Commercial work.

For over 40 years, Legal 500 has been analysing the capabilities of law firms across the world in well over a hundred jurisdictions, using a comprehensive research programme. The rankings are based on feedback from 250,000 in-house peers, client feedback and independent assessment of law firms' deals and cases.

In addition to these rankings, Legal 500 Caribbean also recognised 20 lawyers from the Appleby Cayman office, and 50 Appleby lawyers overall including those from Bermuda and BVI. Lawyers were ranked as either 'Leading Individuals', 'Next Generation Partners' or 'Rising Stars' or named on the 'Recommended' list, with many lawyers recognised in more than one category.
