In the latest in a string of lateral hires that have boosted anti-corruption departments at Latin Lawyer 250 firms, Veirano Advogados has recruited three partners by absorbing criminal law boutique Saad Gimenes Advogados.

Marta Saad, 44, joined Veirano on 7 October to lead Veirano's white-collar crime department. André Mendes Machado, 40, and Luciana Louzado, 45 – both former partners at Saad Gimenes – have likewise joined Veirano as partners. They are also bringing two associates and two interns to Veirano, which is a Latin Lawyer Elite firm.

Veirano's managing partner Ricardo Veirano says the success of the two-year partnership led to the firms' full integration. "It is an ambitious project to create a truly white-collar practice in Brazil, fully integrated along the lines of what you see in more mature markets," he says.

Veirano's white-collar crime department now has a team of 12 lawyers working from Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. Before the hire, it was coordinated by prominent labour lawyer José Carlos Wahle.
