Over the years the Personal and Family team at Brodies have been committed to raising awareness about issues relating to dementia. Today, my colleague Lauren Baillie and I were delighted to be taking a stand at Alzheimer Scotland's Annual Conference at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre.

This year the conference focused on helping individuals and communities find ways to work together to make sure that nobody faces dementia alone.

At the Conference we heard from and spoke to people who are living with dementia. We learned a lot about their experiences, the difficulties that they had faced and the issues they had overcome. We also heard about the invaluable work that carers and organisations are doing to help improve the lives of people with dementia.

Key speakers included Maureen Watt MSP, who gave us an insight into the Scottish Government's focus for improving care for people with dementia and Henry Simmons, Chief Executive of Alzheimer Scotland, who told us about both the successes of the charity and the challenges they face.

It was really inspiring to meet so many people who dedicated their work and time to helping provide support for people with dementia.

Lauren and I spoke to many people at the conference about the importance of putting wills and powers of attorney in place, whilst you are capable of doing so. We understand that we all lead busy lives and it is easy for things to slip down the 'to do' list. However, as none of us know what is round the corner, it is best to be proactive and plan for the future now.
