PLMJ has maintained its leadership in the Portuguese market according to The Legal 500, one of the most prestigious international directories, and has been awarded recommendations in all practice areas analysed. In this year's edition, two practice areas in particular, European Law and Competition, and Restructuring and Insolvency deserve special attention, as do the 69 individual recommendations achieved by 56 lawyers of the PLMJ team.
The firm also sees 10 of its partners recognised by the market as 'Leading Lawyers" in their areas of specialisation. They are:
José Miguel Júdice, Litigation;
Luís Sáragga Leal Corporate/M&A;
Nuno Líbano Monteiro, Restructuring, Insolvency and Litigation;
Abel Mesquita, Employment;
Tiago Cortes, Employment;
Tomás Pessanha, Oporto Office;
Manuel Cavaleiro Brandão, Oporto Office;
Pedro Sáragga Leal, Real Estate;
Jorge de Brito Pereira, Banking and Finance;
Luís Pais Antunes, TMT (Telecommunications, Media and Technology)
We are also very proud of the distinction given to the firm's internationalisation project, through PLMJ International Legal Network with The Legal 500 recognising the quality of services provided in both Angola (GLA) and in Mozambique (GLM). This year marks the 5th anniversary of the launch of PLMJ International Legal Network, with the opening of PLMJ's partner firm in Angola, GLA (in September 2010). It is remarkable that the market has already positioned these firms and the Angolan and Mozambican lawyers who work in them, in the international rankings. This has been achieved through the excellence of the legal services provided and reflects the good work done in these countries as well as PLMJ's clear commitment to internationalisation, particularly in Angola and Mozambique, countries that are analysed for the first time in The Legal 500.
Once again, we believe the results now announced, referring to 2014, consolidate PLMJ's position as an international, full-service firm that provides the highest quality legal services and added value for its clients, in the area of business law. The results also confirm the consistency of the services provided by all practice areas and by more than 250 PLMJ lawyers.
PLMJ has achieved Ranking 1 in 10 practice areas, an improvement on last year (when we registered Ranking 1 in nine practice areas): corporate/M&A, litigation, intellectual property, tax, capital markets, real estate, European law and competition, restructuring and insolvency, employment, and also the work done by PLMJ's Oporto office. The remaining practice areas all appear in Ranking 2. All these rankings demonstrate PLMJ's excellence, innovation and consistency.
It is worth noting that in Portugal, only three independent Portuguese law firms gained recommendations in all practice areas evaluated by The Legal 500, all in Rankings 1 or 2, and PLMJ is one of them.
