In a shift in green energy policy in Romania, the mandatory RES-Electricity quota benefiting from the green certificate support scheme was approved yesterday by the government.
For 2017, the mandatory quota of electricity produced from renewable energy sources, which benefits from the green certificate support scheme, is set at 8.3% of the gross final consumption of electricity, pursuant to the government's decision adopted yesterday.
The Government established the quota for 2017 based on advice from the Romanian Regulatory Authority for Energy, so it should not have a negative impact on the electricity bills of end-users. Although the 2016 quota was 12.15%, calculations made by the Romanian Regulatory Authority for Energy showed that maintaining it for the next year would have caused green certificates to increase the bills of end consumers by 17 lei / MWh, i.e. about 5%.
The regulatory decision was analysed and endorsed by the Competition Council and the Regulatory Authority for Energy.
