On August 24 and September 4, 2012, the Bulgarian customs officials destroyed a significant quantity of counterfeit items, which were seized earlier this year at the Kapitan Andreevo border crossing point, southern Bulgaria.

The fake goods, bearing well-known brand names, included:

  • 1,080 pairs of socks bearing the mark of Hello Kitty;
  • 350 pairs of slippers bearing the mark of FC Barcelona;
  • 1,739 perfumes and eaux de toilette;
  • 49 pairs of shoes;
  • 197 pairs of trousers;
  • 432 T-shirts, sweatpants and shirts;
  • 88 sweatshirts and vests;
  • 57 sweaters;
  • 508 boxers; and
  • 260 mobile phone batteries.

The goods were destroyed under the supervision of customs officials in the southern Bulgarian town of Svilengrad and in the presence of the brand owners' legal representatives.

The Svilengrad customs office recently announced that in 2011 it seized counterfeit goods on 777 occasions.
