We are following up on our previous coverage of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) recent new initiative to enable Visa Waiver Program (VWP) travelers the ability to easily check the status of their stay. The agency has now announced that it has unveiled an automated email system notifying VWP travelers of the need to depart the U.S. ten days prior to the expiration of their stay. Most importantly, all notification emails regarding traveler compliance checks will only be sent from:

Staycompliance-donotreply@cbp.dhs.gov

CBP warns that if the notification email did not come from this address, it may be a flagged as a "phishing scam or other fraudulent email."

By way of background, VWP travelers utilize the Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) to obtain approved VWP travel authorization. As CBP already requires applicants to submit their email address when seeking approval for VWP travel through ESTA, the email addresses for VWP travelers are already on-file with CBP, enabling the automated emails to be sent to travelers.
