Drones, once the high tech toys of the future, have seen a major increase in popularity of late. The FAA is currently working on an official set of rules for commercial drone flight, but until those rules are finalized, the agency has issued some strict guidelines.

Lawmakers are also attempting to hammer out privacy issues associated with drones.

"You have these drones flying around and sort of peering in to places where people ordinarily think they have a reasonable expectation of privacy," said Scott L. Vernick, a noted privacy attorney.

According to Vernick, there will be a learning curve with drones, like any new technology.

"No government agency necessarily gets it right the first time," he said.

So for those seeking to use drones, Vernick cautions, "It should be used safely and it should be used with other people's rights in mind."
