In much the same way that health care providers routinely check the government's lists of excluded individuals and entities in order to comply with Medicare prohibitions on doing business with individuals and entities excluded from the Medicare program, health care providers should also be reminded that Executive Order 13224 issued by President Bush on September 23, 2001, prohibits them from doing business with individuals and entities that "commit, threaten to commit, or support terrorism." Employers should cross check employees and applicants for employment against the federal government's official list of suspected terrorists. A list of these individuals and entities can be found in the annex to the Executive Order posted to the Department of Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control website, http://www.ustreas.gov/offices/enforcement/ofac/sanctions/terrorism.html.

Updates, which appear in the Federal Register, are also posted on our website at V&E - Client Services
(http://www.velaw.com/client_services/client_services_info.cfm?id=59).
