Wage lawsuits are becoming a trend in New York City and the numbers could continue to rise because people continue hearing about them. Workers that believe they have been underpaid at restaurants across the city are hearing more about the suits and deciding to take action themselves.
"The numbers are just scary," said Carolyn Richmond. "We started seeing this trend in 2005 and it's never waned. It's continued to go up exponentially every year."
In 2014, a study was conducted by the U.S Department of Labor and they found that wage violations resulted in between $10 million and $20 million of lost worker income a week in the New York State.
