In February, U.S. District Judge Freda Wolfson dismissed a case in which an employee's same-sex partner was denied health benefits.
The couple had not properly registered for the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (COBRA) coverage that would have permitted these benefits. They argued that it was not clear that they could not sign up for COBRA at any time, after they failed to register several times.
William Honan is currently representing the parent company of the health center involved, as the case heads to the Third Circuit of the U.S. Court of Appeals.
