The Massachusetts Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change is hosting hearings across the Commonwealth to gather input on clean energy and climate change. Launched by Senate President Pro Tempore Marc R. Pacheco (D-Taunton), the "MA Clean Energy Future Tour" began its nine-stop tour on May 8 and will end on June 26 in Boston. Over the course of the Massachusetts Clean Energy Future Tour, the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change will make nine stops across the Commonwealth to hear from various communities. From the Berkshires to the Cape, constituents and stakeholders are encouraged to attend and voice their opinions on energy issues, climate change, and state legislation. The public hearings will take place in a forum-based fashion, as committee members will hear the questions and suggestions of residents.
"This tour is an answer to thousands of constituent conversations, calls and emails concerning the health and future of our local communities, our state, our country and our world as a whole," said Senator Pacheco, who is also the founding Chairman of the Committee. "This tour will give us a perfect opportunity to hear from our communities who demand a clean energy future."
In addition to these hearings, the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change will be making a site visit to the U.S. Geological Survey's Woods Hole Coastal and Marine Science Center. The visit will include a discussion of clean energy, climate change, and economic development in Massachusetts, a visit to the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's dock and near-shore research vessels, and further hands-on discussions of infrastructure and planning. The Committee has invited the congressional delegation to also attend.
The MA Clean Energy Future Tour will hold four more hearings in June, visiting Springfield on June 12, Pittsfield on June 19, and Danvers on June 20.
