Qualified Retirement Plans: May and June 2006 Developments
The Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act of 2005 (TIPRA, P. L. 109-222, 5/17/2006), signed by the President on May 17, 2006, includes expanded opportunities for Roth IRA conversions. The primary purposes of TIPRA are to provide alternative minimum tax relief (AMT relief) for individuals for 2006, two more years of low tax rates for capital gains and qualified dividends, and two more years of favorable Code Section 179 expensing deductions for businesses.
