A simplified form for registering a database with the Polish data protection authority (GIODO) will be introduced on 10 February 2009.

The main simplification relates to a description of technical and organisational means applied by data controllers. Instead of a lengthy and detailed description of data controllers' IT systems, there will be 5 tick-boxes to answer questions about the means of data security.

The change is designed to reduce the need to correct mistakes made by data controllers in filling in the form, which was needlessly extending the registration procedure.

Simplifying technical descriptions in the form does not release data controllers from the obligation to implement all the necessary technical and organisational means of securing personal data.

The new form should also be used in relation to databases which are already registered where there is a need to update information included in them.
