The Meritas Annual Meeting was held in London from May 4 - 6, 2022, hosted by Howard Kennedy. Bennett & Philp Lawyers was represented by Special Counsel, Spencer Slasberg and Senior Associate, Kerri Balaba who were able to participate in a jam-packed itinerary filled with keynote speakers, presentations, panel discussions and group networking events.

The Opening Reception at the offices of Howard Kennedy was a three-floor showcase of English-inspired eats, musicians and garden games.

The conference sessions addressed several key topics including -

  • global disruption in and out of the law;
  • trends in developing and maintaining an Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) approach to business, including Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Net Zero;
  • building and maintaining firm culture in a post-COVID world;
  • using data and intelligence for competitive advantage and growth in law;
  • social justice in the business of law;
  • diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) in business development.

To close out the conference, attendees had the opportunity to participate in social activities such as treasure hunts, bike tours and wine tastings and then wind down over dinner at some of London's best restaurants including Swan at Shakespeare's Globe, Roast, The Refinery Bankside and Gordon Ramsay's Bread Street Kitchen.

Postponed since 2020, the meeting was a chance for Meritas members from over 50 countries around the world to reconnect, network and engage in collaborative discussions and activities. The attendees were armed with ideas and strategies to take back to their firms and promote among their clients.

The meeting was also a celebration of the 30-year anniversary of the Meritas network.
