The Science and Technology Commission of the Venezuelan National Assembly has recommenced the discussions held up since the end of 1999 on the projected Industrial Property Law. On 29 June, interested parties were called upon to reopen discussions to review subjects to be included in the project, in order to ensure compliance with related international obligations to which the Republic was already subject. The Assembly has called for the participation not only of interested parties but also of experts in the area.

TPA member and Intellectual Property expert joins discussions for projected Intellectual Property Law in National Assembly. Lawyer Gabriela Nuñez, Intellectual Property expert and partner in Torres, Plaz & Araujo, has been called upon by the National Assembly to assist with the drafting of the projected Industrial Property Law. Her particular collaboration as a consultant has been sought in the area of industrial secrets. This subject is currently of particular interest due to the delegation by certain International Conventions on Intellectual Property and the need to ensure that national legislation covers and regulates such aspects.
