We are pleased to share with you the latest edition of our Competition Law update, where we cover some of the significant legal, regulatory and policy developments in India's competition regime over the last quarter (October – December 2019).

This quarter witnessed some interesting developments with the Competition Commission of India (CCI) ordering an investigation against the conduct of GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited on allegations of abuse of dominance.

The newsletter also analyzes the dismissal of allegations of price cartelization amongst LPG cylinder manufacturers by the CCI (with the CCI recognizing the monopsony nature of the market ). Interestingly, the CCI has now amended the extant regulations to inter alia discourage forum shopping and assess confidentiality status of informants.

In our "ELP Insights" section of this update, we have assessed CCI's recent engagement with the dynamic market of the online hotel booking sector. We have also covered recent updates on green channel approvals and a recent Delhi High Court clarification that freely negotiated contracts would be vital to determine contravention of Section 3 or 4 of the Act.
