Malta Enterprise has started accepting applications for the COVID Wage Supplement announced by the Prime Minister on 24 March 2020. This incentive is targeted to provide assistance to employees of those businesses that are (i) most drastically hit by the COVID-19 epidemic and listed in what is referred as Annex A sectors and (ii) otherwise adversely effected, listed in the Annex B sectors. It is important to note that the funds under this incentive will be received by the employers who will be under the obligation to forward same to its employees.

By this measure:

  • Full-time employees and self-employed individuals working in industries listed under Annex A will be entitled to up to five days' salary based on a monthly wage of €800. Part-time employees will be eligible for up to €500 per month.
  • Full-time employees working in sectors listed under Annex B shall be entitled to one days' salary per week equivalent to €160 per month. Part-time employees will be eligible to one day's salary per week, equivalent to €100 per month. Moreover, self-employed individuals who have employees shall be entitled to two days' salary per week, equivalent to €320 per month.
  • Full-time employees of businesses based in Gozo falling within the Annex B list shall be entitled to two days' salary per week, equivalent to €320 per month whilst part-time employees are entitled to €200 per month. This is also the same for self-employed individuals with businesses based in Gozo. This shall be increased to €480 for self-employed individuals who employ employees, and the employees will be entitled to 2 days' salary calculated on €800 a month.
