Official results of the 2012 Bahamas national elections held on Monday 7 May gave control of Parliament to the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP), with the PLP winning 29 of the 38 constituencies (or seats) up for contest. The incumbent Free National Movement (FNM) won 9 seats. In so doing, Bahamians continued a tradition of peaceful and non-violent elections and maintained an unbroken chain of over 280 years of parliamentary democracy.

In the British Westminster tradition, the leader of the party winning the highest number of parliamentary seats becomes Prime Minister. The Rt. Hon. Perry G. Christie led the PLP to its victory in the general elections and has thereby displaced the Rt. Hon. Hubert A. Ingraham who led the FNM government during its 5-year term (2007 - 2012) in office. Mr. Christie now commences a second term as Prime Minister having previously served as such from 2002 - 2007.
