May 30, 2018 – Canada immigration authorities have conducted a rare program-specific Express Entry draw aimed at Skilled Trades and Provincial Nomination candidates.

The draw saw 700 candidates with scores as low as 288 invited to apply for Canada immigration.

Under the Federal Skilled Trades section of the draw, 500 candidates were invited to apply with the lowest-ranked candidate scoring 288 points. The Provincial Nominee Program part of the draw saw 200 candidates invited with a minimum score of 902 points. Candidates with a provincial nomination score 600 points on top of their Express Entry profile score.

This was the 11th round of invitations under Express Entry in 2018 and  91st overall. This is just the third program-specific draw since Express Entry began, with the others taking place in May and November 2017.

Immigration authorities can now set an exact number of invitations to be issued.  Where the number of candidates with the lowest score surpasses the number of invitations permitted, authorities will implement a tie-breaking mechanism to issue invitations based on a time-stamp-determined, first come, first served basis.

Thus, if more than one candidate has the lowest score, the cut-off is based on the date and time they submitted their Express Entry profiles. The highest number of candidates invited in a single draw since the change is 3,500.
