February 7, 2018 - Caregivers with two years of work experience in Canada as a home child care provider, or caring for persons with high medical needs, may be able to apply for permanent residence through the Caring for Children, or Caring for People with High Medical Needs programs, respectively. However, the caregiver permanent residence pilot programs for foreign caregivers caring for children and caregivers caring for people with high medical needs is expiring on November 29, 2019. IRCC is currently reviewing the program for caregivers and has not yet determined whether to eliminate the program, renew it or come up with a replacement program. Without two years of full time work experience as a caregiver to people with high medical needs or to children, before November 29, 2019, will not be eligible to apply. The cut off affects caregivers who arrived after November 2017 as well as those who fail to meet the two-year employment requirement by November 2019. Potential applicants who started working after November 29, 2017 should contact our office and book a consultation to review their immigration options.
