February 16, the Ontario Government announced a one-year delay in the enrolment date for large employers. Employers with 500 or more employees employed in Ontario who do not offer employees a registered workplace pension plan will now be required to remit contributions to the ORPP as of January 1, 2018. The originally proposed enrolment date for large employers was January 1, 2017.

The enrolment process remains unchanged for smaller employers. Employers with between 50 and 499 employees employed in Ontario (without a registered workplace pension plan) will also be required to contribute to the ORPP as of January 1, 2018, and employers with fewer than 50 employees employed in Ontario (without a registered workplace pension plan) will be required to contribute to the ORPP as of January 1, 2019.
