Why is Davis contributing to information overload by blogging about information overload?

The D: Drive is about all aspects of electronic data, but it was born of a first-hand personal encounter.

On February 27, Kelly Friedman, partner in the Davis Toronto office and an expert in electronic discovery, gave a keynote speech at the Ottawa Law Review Symposium on Cloud Computing. Kelly had spent the day revelling in the scholarly program (something a practising lawyer doesn’t get to do too often), listening to brilliant professors and practitioners share their technical knowledge on cloud computing challenges. While she certainly enjoyed herself, Kelly also couldn’t help but wonder what she could have possibly contributed to the dialogue in such an academic setting.

Then she received a pleasant surprise. Attendee feedback started pouring in, and the theme expressed was consistent: they had enjoyed the personal and practical approach Kelly took to the topic and found it to be a unique and welcome experience.

When Kelly returned to the Davis office and shared this feedback with her colleagues, the D: Drive team was inspired to create a blog to respond to that need: a place where people can get straightforward answers to the question “But how do I deal with it?” So this is our commitment to you: We will strive to take difficult issues and arguments and make them accessible and applicable to real world problems. Please hold us to that.
