On January 18, 2018 the Education Law Group broadcast a Morning Recess webinar on the issue of cannabis in schools.  A copy of the podcast can be requested at educationlaw@millerthomson.com.

The Cannabis Act, 2017 was passed on December 12, 2017 but is not yet in force.  It is accompanied by the Ontario Cannabis Retail Corporation Act, 2017, which combines with amendments to the Smoke-Free Ontario Act to create the legislative regime for regulated cannabis sale and consumption in Ontario, once the federal government proclaims legislation making its sale and consumption legal.

The legislation will prohibit sales and consumption to youth under the age of 19.  Consumption will also be restricted.  Recreational consumption will be prohibited in a workplace or public place, and consumption by smoking will be prohibited in public places and in school buildings.
