On June 3, 2021, Bill C-5 entitled An Act to amend the Bills of Exchange Act, the Interpretation Act and the Canada Labour Code (National Day for Truth and Reconciliation) (the "Act"), received royal assent. The Act introduces a new public holiday to the Canada Labour Code, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, which will be observed on September 30th every year. 

The Act will come into force on July 3, 2021. Therefore, federal jurisdiction employers should be aware that September 30 of this year will be a public holiday.
