The Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency (Agência Nacional de Telecomunicações - ANATEL) has published the draft documentation for the future auctioning of the 700 MHz frequency - Fourth Generation Mobile Internet (4G) in Brazil.

According to the draft, bidders submitting the highest offers will win the 4G auction. The ANATEL estimates that the auction will generate around R$ 7.5 billion (approximately US$ 3.2 billion).

The ANATEL expects the auction to be held in August, 2014, and the implementation of the 4G to be concluded until the end of 2017.

With the use of the 700 MHz frequency, the ANATEL has assured that Brazil will have the same 4G standards of other countries, including the United States. It has also stated that this frequency, which is ideal for covering large distances, will also enable the provision of mobile telephony and Internet broadband services to rural areas at low operating costs.

Any interested party may submit comments on the draft documentation to ANATEL until June 3, 2014.
